North Indian curry powders tend to be milder and very aromatic, while South Indian blends tend to be hotter in flavor. Sharing a little story on our founding… My father, Ramesh Chander, the founder of our company, owned small Indian Grocery in Culver City, CA by the name of Bharat Bazaar. He opened this in 1979, a couple years later the very first Indian Restaurant in Los Angeles opened up shop too, the owner was Mr. Kapoor. He has asked my father to source him spices & blends, and my father picked one of the major brand off the shelf items and sold it to him. A day later, Mr. Kapoor came back, angry! He told my father this is utter garbage, whomever blended this did not use all 10 spices and furthermore they just blended a ton of coriander (the cheapest spice in this blend) to make it cost effective. Mr. Kapoor had my father write down the proper blend, and Mr. Kapoor was an ITC trained chef out of India, he knew his stuff! My father blended the items together and he knew right away, this blend will be amazing. Mr. Kapoor agreed. My father took it one step further and began grinding all the spices fresh and began selling them at the shop. It was a hit! We love the taste, but the product was very very gritty, as if it had sand in it. I used it in several different applications (sauce, in rice, etc) and it was always the same. It is unusable as is.
The bigger problem is that we tried to contact the manufacturer by email and by phone to return the product, thinking that they would want to know about this issue. We never got any response to email or any answer by phone.

Poor Quality Product – Think Twice!

I purchased this awhile ago based on decent reviews, but I should have waited. The first time I used it I just measured it out and we ate the dish, but there were literally chunks of unknown items in this container and I found it very gritty and disgusting. Later, I was about to use it in a second dish some sort of waxed paper pouch fell out and that was it! In the trash it went. The taste of the initial use was quite pleasing, but I will never purchase this again and I cannot recommend it to others due to the POOR QUALITY!

While I do not have a lot of experience with Indian food I am very pleased with my purchases from this company. I have used curry powders before and they are nothing like this one. I have purchased the Fenugreek Seeds, Garam Masala, Amchur, Asafetida and Curry Powder. My husband has people come from India for training where he works. I like to try to make a few meals for them while they are here. They are either really polite or the meals are really good – they have raved about everything so far. I have also really enjoyed everything I have made so far. Everything has such an amazing aroma when it is cooking, it is impossible to not be starving by the time the food is ready!

If you are looking for an extremely mild curry powder, this is it. I bought it based on all the 5 star reviews, thinking it would be mild but flavorful. Unfortunately, it is not what I was looking for, as it is so mild as to be strangely almost tasteless. None of my recipes are the same with it. The combination of spices is just too different from the curry powder that I buy at the local Asian market. I would return it if I could. Bummer because I love supporting smaller family run businesses when I can. But I won’t be buying this again.

Great MILD Curry Powder, mine was a year old and the seal was broken – but it was shrink wrapped. Still surprisingly fragrant, I have made 5 vegan curries with it so far, love the flavor. 2 Tablespoons of this with some garam masala, mango or amchur powder, and some chili paste will really make a nice curry, especially if you make garlic ginger paste fresh. Can’t go wrong with Rani. Even with just this curry powder and coconut milk (or yogurt) + roasted veggies you would have a crowd pleaser. This powder saves a lot of time in your cooking. Another tip my friend taught me with oil-free vegan curry is to really put a good char on some ~10{98880d97af0555a3a517c8aae666eeb64e7bd6d49cbbe05617dcb138f6e48200} of your veggies by oven roasting them a little extra or flashing them in your pan on high when everything is mixed together, adds a lot of flavor and aroma.

I have bought the mild twice. Each one lasts me about a year. IMHO it tastes good and has not had any of the issues mentioned in other reviews. It is a fraction of the price of the McCormick small bottle at wmt, but you can get that brand on Amazon for a price similar to this one for a full pound. I don’t recall why I switched to Rani, but pretty sure it all comes from the same place, and I have found I can reuse the plastic package on this one for storing other herbs or fertilizer etc. Let’s face it the jar costs about $1.50 and should be reused if possible. Just ordered my third bottle.

This is really good stuff! I bought it based on the high reviews and it totally lives up to what I hoped for.

As compared to the grocery store blends it’s lighter on both cumin and fenugreek, which gives it a smoother, milder, and in my opinion much nicer flavor. That said, even though it’s mild, it’s got plenty of flavor and you don’t need a huge amount to give a dish the perfect amount of spice.

The price is also so much better than what you get in the tiny jars at the grocery store. And furthermore, this blend seems a lot fresher than some of the bags I’ve picked up at my local Indian markets. (Perhaps that’s just me – but still worth mentioning.)

Absolutely recommended if you enjoy Indian-style curries!
